Growing up the 60’s caused us to often have “heavy” discussions about life. Back then we could disagree and yet be respectful and end a discussion as close friends not a “I hate you” attitude because your viewpoint differed from mine.
I remember reading many years ago that George Washington appointed Thomas Jefferson the first Secretary of State even those his political viewpoint was the polar opposite of President Washington. Washington when asked why on earth he would select Jefferson responded that Jefferson had one of the sharpest minds he had ever seen. Washington said Jefferson always challenged my conclusions and made me think even more. He also said-Jefferson often brings things I never thought of or considered.
Duh ??
Thinking on your own may have disappeared altogether in today’s society.
Allowing respectful disagreement and talking about issues with respect is what the late great Ernie Harwell called “long gone”.
Below are a few thoughts that haunt me everyday and worry the hell out of me as I look at the future of my Grandchildren.
I’d love to get your respectful input. Respectful is the key word. I will not publish any of the “hate” I see on a daily basis.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Lemming-A member of a crowd with no originality or voice of his own. One who speaks or repeats only what he has been told. A tool. A cretin.
These guys are really reproducing-beware ! They control our news, our newspapers.
They are mating with apathy- A complete lack of emotion or motivation, whether directed towards a person, activity, or object.
While it can often be confused with Stoicism, apathy is much worse than merely not showing feelings, as the person who is apathetic HAS no feelings.
Sadly, the most likely cause of the world’s problems is that no one seems to care about anything anymore. Apathy is truly entropy.
Entropy- the inevitable and steady deterioration of any system or society.
What do you think ?
